We offer osmolarity testing using the I-Pen. The I-Pen is an in vivo handheld tear osmolarity measuring device. It works by measuring electrical impedance in ocular tissues, which is converted by a proprietary algorithm into osmolarity. Measurements are taken by touching the device to tear soaked conjunctival tissue on the inside of the lower eyelid. The I-Pen takes 192 readings in 2-4 seconds and then displays the osmolarity results on its LCD screen.
During your advanced tear analysis, our eye doctors will also assess the lipid layer thickness of your tears, assess ocular surface staining using specific dyes, measure your tear break-up time (TBUT) and observe your blink pattern.
